NEWS AND THANKS

May was a very busy month beginning with our special celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III. The church was decorated magnificently thanks to so many people and children who contributed to making the bunting. A huge thank you goes to Jenny and her sister who created and made the focal feature at the front of the church which looked amazing. Thank you very much to all who came to decorate the church inside and out, your help is very much appreciated. Everyone enjoyed the special Coronation Coffee & Chat morning/lunch. We were entertained by Jeanette on the keys with ‘Name that Tune’ and enjoyed a beautiful lunch provided by you all. Thank you very much, you are all so generous and willing to help wash up afterwards. Our celebrations continued at The Big Picnic Lunch on the Sunday. We were very blessed with the weather after a wet Coronation Day. Guide Group leader Carol and her daughter Samantha worked hard organising the fun and games. The bouncy castle was a big draw for the children and we were very blessed to have live entertainment in the church provided by Break4Fill. It was great to see people of all ages in the community get together and have fun. The day was finished off by a wonderful Celebration service led by Rev. Malcolm Boulter. Although the picnic was a free event, people kindly donated and at the end of the afternoon £61.48 was collected. The money was donated and extra from her collection box to ‘Elsie’s Steps’ towards Elsie’s Physiotherapy sessions. We sent a cheque to Marie and Jamie for £!00 for which they were very grateful. It was a marvellous effort all around, thank you very much for the ladies who were responsible for making all the teas and coffee’s and those who provided cakes. What would we do without you all? Thank you so much for helping and giving up your time in the kitchen!!

The church has new kettles! Kindly donated by Knit and Natter – Thank you ladies, this is very much appreciated.

Once again Daphne has worked extremely hard in the garden. Our grounds are extensive and with all the rain we are having everything is taking off especially the weeds. Daphne has been tackling the hedges which are a massive job. We really appreciate how hard she works and the time she donates. It is above and beyond. Daphne is certainly a very talented gardener and follows in her Dad’s footsteps.

A couple of weeks ago at Coffee & Chat we got to celebrate Debbie Baldry’s retirement from the local village school after 32 years. We celebrated in style with a cream tea provided by Debbie and Denise’s wonderful homemade scones. They were very yummy. Jeanette played the piano and we joined Debbie by singing Silver Trumpet, which is a song that they used to sing at school with the children and it was sung with relish. Debbie had written a wonderful poem for Jeanette in dedication for all the years of service she has given to Silver End School too. It was a marvellous morning celebrating two wonderful ladies that have given so much to the young people of this village for so many years. We honour and thank them both because they have given so much more than money could buy. Thank you ladies.

Last week we celebrated the life of Roy Davies at his Thanksgiving Service. Roy would have loved every minute of it. The church was packed full and filled with his beautiful flowers. We had to keep getting more chairs in to accommodate all those who wanted to come and honour Roy. The church was full of music, laughter and praise. Roy’s daughters certainly must have felt so proud of their Dad. With their help he lived out every moment of his life until the end. We were so delighted to see Jo and Robert who had travelled down from Lincolnshire to attend. They both looked really well. They send their love to all.

Something for you to think about!

The pressures of everyday life can persuade us to focus on the here and now and thus forget God. That is why worship is so important. It takes our eyes off our current worries, gives us a glimpse of God’s holiness, and allows us to look forward to His future kingdom. God’s presence makes everything glorious, and worship brings us into His presence.

Matthew 6:9-13 from the Message Bible

‘Our Father in heaven, reveal who You are. Set the world right; do what’s best--as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with You and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything You want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes, Yes.’

Pentecost

Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work too may be holy; Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I will love what is holy; Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, that I will defend all that is holy; Guard me O Holy Spirit; that I may always be holy. Amen

St. Augustine

We give thanks once again for this community, for our friends and neighbours, for all the amenities we have here in the village, and especially for our churches. Pray for a work of the Holy Spirit in Silver End. Pray for a greater vision of what God wants from us and a deeper devotion to each other and to our Lord.

We give God thanks for protecting the thousands who attended celebrations for King Charles’ III Coronation in London. It was a magnificent and proud day for our Country. We give thanks and pray for the Police and Security Services, and ask God grant those in authority the wisdom and integrity to balance the protection of national security with individual freedoms.

Half-way through the year already and it has been such a late spring. It reminds me never to take things for granted, we are so blessed living here in this Country and for the seasons even if they seem to be slow in coming. We give thanks for the magnificent trees, flowers, the oxygen we breathe the water that just flows out of our taps. We hear such negative stories all the time on the media, but when we look around the world at what others endure, we should be so thankful beyond words.

We bring before God those who need and would value our prayers at this time. We pray for Iris, for Nicki, for Alf, for James, for Brenda, for Val, for Judy, for Doreen, for Rose, for Barbara. Pray for Debbie as she goes into hospital for her long awaited operation. Please continue to pray for Roy’s family and for other families in this village who are grieving with the sudden loss of their loved ones.

When you can’t put your prayers into words… God hears your heart. Romans 8:26
